Tinnitus- Sounds Of Silence

Tinnitus is a common but invisible hearing condition, where a person hears sound which have no external source. It is most commonly described as “ringing of the ears”, though it can take on many different kinds of sounds. No one knows for sure what causes tinnitus, only that the sound is generated by the brain after a change in the auditory system. Therefore, it is considered to be a symptom of an underlying problem, rather than it’s own diagnosis.

Tinnitus is a common condition. In the UK, 3 in 10 people will experience it at some point during their lifetime. 1 in 8 will have permanent, incurable tinnitus. Despite its prevalence, most people aren’t aware of tinnitus, or if they are, have very little understanding of what it is like to live with. Tsos (Tinnitus - Sounds of Silence) is an awareness project created to give people with tinnitus a space to share their experiences. The project can be viewed and followed on instagram @t.sos_.
